Sunbeam 14/40

1924-1927

In 1924, the Sunbeam 14 was replaced by the 14/40. It used the 2121cc four cylinder overhead valve engine carried over from the 14 with magneto ignition. Carburation was by a Claudel Hobson MZP type.

Semi-elliptic springs were used at the front, with cantilevers at the back. The gearbox was a three speed unit with a right hand change. Four wheel brakes were fitted.

Bodies listed included: two and five seat tourers, sports model, coupe, saloon and Weymann saloon.

Production totalled around 2850.

  1. I sold my 14/40 to someone in Pymble NSW in about 1957. It was somwhat modified with the radiator replaced by the angle-faced one from a 3-Litre as was the gearbox with a 4-speed box. The engine was thermo-syphon only cooled and the fan was not used. The compression ratio was raised to 6:1 and the muffler emptied of baffles. Does anyone know of its fate. it had rego No, SC13
